Linda Peavy and Ursula Smith, authors of Pioneer Women, have won several awards for their latest book Full-Court Quest, a history of the Native American women who were basketball players for Fort Shaw Indian School, world champions at the start of the twentieth century. Published by the University of Oklahoma Press (US publishers of the trade paper edition of Pioneer Women), they netted the Spur Award (Western Writers of America), the Montana Book Award, the Oklahoma Book Award, and the Willa (Women Writing the West) – a remarkable tally for a single book! Linda and Ursula were Chief Historical Consultants to the popular PBS series Frontier House. They live in Vermont. |
